Why stay here ...

CL of the Year Award 2023 - Winner

Landis Farm Caravan and Motorhome site is located just outside the pretty village of New Abbey in Dumfries and Galloway. New Abbey is famous for the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey which is in the centre of the village. The village is located on the South West Coastal 300 Route making it a perfect stop off if you are travelling around the area.

All pitches have electric hook up and are hardstanding. There is a toilet and shower facility fully set up for wheelchair and disabled access with a wet room facility and the other side of the block has a shower, hand basin and wc. There is free Wi-Fi available on site. We are a small, friendly site based on a working farm which has been in our family for over ninety years. We are lucky to be situated in the unspoilt countryside of Dumfries and Galloway. The quiet surroundings offer peace and tranquility but we are ideally located for a host of activities in the region. We are dog friendly.

Around The Site

You don't need to use your car if you fancy a walk or some history or a cup of tea and a cake. Footpaths from the farm will take you to the Nith estuary, Waterloo Monument and Criffel hill. We are only a ten minute walk from the beautiful village of New Abbey featuring the historic Sweetheart Abbey and a Cornmill which is open to the public. There is a small shop, village pub and award winning tea room and gift shop in the village. You are also welcome to view our collection of vintage tractors and meet some of the farm residents including goats, chickens and cattle.

Further Afield

Dumfries and Galloway is a magnet for walkers, cyclists, fishermen and golfers. The town of Dumfries is also well known for it's connection with Robert Burns and there are a number of interesting places to visit. Some local attractions we'd suggest are:

Mabie Farm Park - Only ten minutes drive from the site, is a great day out for families.
Kirkconnel Flow - This nature reserve is only 3 miles from the site.
Caerlaverock and Mersehead - Both of these areas are a must for bird watchers.

Driving along the coast road will take you to a range of secluded bays including Sandyhills, Rockcliffe and the marina village of Kipford. The town of Dalbeattie is a little further on and past there you will find the Food Town Castle Douglas and the Artist Town Kirkcudbright.

Landis Farm
Just spent 8 nights at this wonderful site, congratulations to Colin & Sandra for the brilliant work they have & continue to do to this superb CL. Everything that has been said in previous reviews about this CL are spot on and it's not a surprise they have been CL of the year. So do yourself a favour and pay them a visit as we will certainly be back when next in the area.

Landis Farm
We stayed at this site on our recent holiday which saw us using CL sites for the first time. Sandra and Colin were out and about regularly on the site and happy to chat or suggest walks/places to visit. We had a lovely pitch with good views over the surrounding countryside. The facilities were excellent; there is a large toilet for the Landis Farm CL and a clean and spacious shower block which is shared with the Criffel View site (on a different part of the farm). There are walks from the farm and we went to New Abbey, where there is a good cafe, and also down to the River Nith. Lack of time meant that we didn't explore the area as much as we would have liked, but Dumfries Museum was interesting, and Castle Douglas is a bustling wee town with lots of interesting shops, as well as Thrieve House and gardens nearby. We also visited Wigtown which has numerous bookshops and cafes. If back in this area, we would definitely stay at Landis Farm again.

Peaceful site, lovely views

Landis Farm
Well-kept site as described elsewhere in more detail. The picnic bench next to the pitch was a nice touch. Up a hill, so there are great views over the village and the abbey to Criffel. Several large caravans were on site, despite the narrow rough access road.

Just can’t fault this CL

Landis Farm
By far this is the best CL we have stayed at. The farm setting was beautiful, very well maintained with much attention to detail. The toilet and showers very clean and spacious. Excellent wi-fi. Our hosts were helpful and very pleasant. This site is a must.
