The Firs was a new site to us. We chose it as there were a few places we wanted to visit in the area. It’s well located and there are a range of attractions not too far away. The site is quite small and it’s a bit compact for larger units. They will fit just. In addition follow the route instructions. The other routes have steep gradients and it’s worth the u turn at Morrisons.
Site staff were very helpful and the site is well looked after.
WiFi is good, dog walk is sufficient but I wouldn’t let a dog off lead, there aren’t any easy walks from site or pubs, so as a consequence it’s not a great location for families. However for others it’s ideal as apart from a bit of road noise it’s peaceful and there is a nice view from the site.
not happy campers
When we arrived we told we were not booked in here,, we booked 10.30ish, told no your not, there are more than 1 firs you know, yes but we have definitely booked in here, no you have not but you can stay but you will have to pay again, we then showed her my bank on my phone where the money was taken from, her reply was, thats not us we are not the caravan club ltd you've been on a rogue site caravan club is not limited company, so she clearly doesn't know who she works for, top & bottom of it is women VERY RUDE!!,NO APPOLOGY WE LEFT A DAY EARLY we were VERY uncomfortable staying there any longer NEVER felt so unwelcome on either caravan club site or any other!!

A welcoming and peaceful stay.
A warm welcome by the wardens, who identified and commented on the available pitches during the registration process. They were friendly and helpful throughout. This is a small and peaceful site, with ample space between the level and tidy pitches. The facilities and the site in general were kept in excellent condition throughout our stay. We (and the dogs) enjoyed a lovely walk around the reservoir at Carsington Water and a trip to The Heights of Abraham. The directions to the site listed on the website are excellent and should be followed rather than Satnav. Our only disappointment was that there are no easy walks from the site with dogs. The local pub is only a short walk away but vehicles are driven at excessive speeds on the lane past the campsite.
Secluded Summer Break
A great site for a summer break kept in excellent order by the site staff.
Very quiet with great views and excellent bus services about a mile from the site (allowing for the hill). Allowing excellent access to local attractions.
We couldn't understand why it was so quiet
Nice site, friendly and helpful wardens. Not as close to walks as some sites
This is a nice site. Facilities great for a small site. There is a nice pub within walking distance. Our issue was that most walks required walking along a relatively busy road. To get to Derbyshire/Peak District places a car journey of up to 45 minutes is required. Nice for a chilled long weekend though!

Lovely countryside site
A short weekend break only 20 mins from home. Nice warm greeting on arrival and efficient check. Pitch near facilities block as requested and not far from dog walk. Nice size hardstanding pitch with trees backdrop on the edge of site. Facilities spotlessly clean at all times. Bus stop outside the gate very handy for getting to Belper and back (we had a nice walk into town, about 40 mins generally downhill or flat but thought of uphill walk back led us to cop out and get the bus lol).
We will definitely return.
A peaceful tight ship
Once through a stringent check-in (needed to see my membership card in two formats, had been pre-allocated a pitch based on our campervan size), it’s a peaceful, immaculately kept, and efficiently run site. A good base from which to walk through Shining Cliff Woods. It was quiet and relaxing in the evenings; perfect after a days walking.
Lovely peaceful site
From the lovely welcome to the choice of pitches we found the whole experience relaxing and friendly. The facilities are very clean and had one of the best information rooms we have seen. The views are lovely and the pitched are flat and level.
BUT make sure you follow the recommended approach map as the surrounding roads are most definitely not to be challenged with any sort of rig. (As we found!!)
We will be back, well done to the wardens who manage this site on their own!!

Lovely little site
Always been unsure of trying this site, but glad we have. Quaint site, with beautiful views, and Belper is within walking distance, but yes, the road can be a little busy. The wardens, which are only one couple are lovely and keep this site so well, be it on their own. We are very picky on cleanliness and find that this site is cleaner than some sites that have more than one wardens. We never see what anyone has with toilets being closed as these things have to be done at a reasonable time for the site to open. Anyhow, caravans/motorhomes are fitted with these facilities. We will definitely be back, and think that the wardens due to their lovely welcoming personalities have allot to do with our return. It’s so nice to feel welcome.
Great facilities
We recently stayed here in our campervan with our dog. The site is lovely and the facilities absolutely spotless. However, I agree with a previous review that dog walks from the site are very limited due to the incredibly busy road you have to walk along to get anywhere, which is also noisy. We did find the facilities all being closed at 10am for cleaning (all at the same time) frustrating. Being away from home meant we wanted to have a relaxed start to the morning not have to be up and showered with all the washing up done by 10am. I do understand the reason for this but it’s not conducive to a relaxing start to the day! The people running it were lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful.
