Jakob Bürstner started trading as Bürstner in 1924, initially operating as a construction and furniture workshop in the Neumühl district of Kehl in southwestern Germany.  In 1955 the business changed to concentrate on interior fittings and furnishings.  With their high reputation for quality and excellence, the company received a large order from Deutsche Bahn to fit out train stations and to furnish the newly-built homes for railway staff at the same time.  In 1958 Jakob’s son Gerhart Bürstner, realised there was a bright future ahead for touring holidays and he started to work alongside a local chassis manufacturer and the first Bürstner caravan was developed, the Delfin (Dolphin).  In 1986 Bürstner started to produce motorhomes.  Bürstner is part of the Erwin Hymer Group.
